Sudie Watson Britt papers, 1880 Nov. 8-1914 Mar. 10.

Consisting chiefly of letters, 1887-1888, addressed to Sudie Watson while a student at the Greenville Female College in upstate South Carolina [later known as Greenville Woman's College], and both prior to and following her marriage, 8 Oct. 1890, to Thomas Jacob Britt (1863-1929). Following their marriage, T.J. and Sudie Watson Britt resided in Sandover (Abbeville County, S.C.); business letterhead identifies Britt as a dealer in general merchandise and farm and stock raiser. He earlier was employed by Cothran & Co. (McCormick, S.C.); collection includes letterhead stationery of various stores and hotels in South Carolina. Also includes post-1900 letters addressed to Annie Louise Britt (1893-1946), daughter of Thomas J. and Sudie Watson Britt, while a student at Limestone College, Gaffney, S.C., 1913-1914. Family Bible includes a record of the marriage of Thomas J. Britt and Sudie Watson as well as a record of the births of a son, John Wayland Britt, 3 Aug. 1891, and a daughter, Annie Louise Britt, 22 June 1893 [title page missing]; additional realia housed in carton (including leather belt, women's satin necktie, and short purple bodice).
